After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York , Allgeyer designed knitwear collections for fashion giant Liz Claiborne. Allgeyer traveled to Asia more than 100 times where she was introduced to the ancient art of feng shui. Allgeyer is now both a fine artist and a feng shui master. The rich colors, textures, exotic sights and sounds that she experienced in Asia deeply influenced her creative work. Allgeyer’s hand-knit intarsia sweater designs were described by Women’s Wear Daily as “wearable art”.  While enjoying a successful career designing apparel, textiles, and home furnishings accessories, Allgeyer found herself longing for brush and easel. She began exhibiting her original fine art paintings professionally at galleries and museum shows on both coasts and internationally in Berlin

“I frequently combine the practice of feng shui with my art. Balance of color, placement of line, visual symbols that inspire a particular mood…these are the elements that create a feeling of harmony in our living and working environments. I’ve always got that in the back of my mind while I’m painting.”

Having divided 25 years between east coast and west coast, Allgeyer recently decided to locate her art studio in High Point . The inspiration for Katy Allgeyer’s Nepalese rug collection is a great synergy of art and design.
